Sara has now faced the obstacle course challenging her upper body strength and technique ... Justin just think of all those days she spent training ... I know that surely has helped though I kind of doubt there is any walking on her hands through the O'Course... :)
After 12 days of combat conditioning (...PT...good for you...good for me...) Sara is feeling her strength more than ever now. In her martial arts classes, she is learning how to take advantage of "weapons of opportunity", the proper use of knife fighting techniques, and "armed manipulations," or "how to disengage from an opponent who is trying to disarm them and then regain the offensive while armed with a rifle."
Sara was scheduled for First Aid V today which familiarizes the recruit with identifying poisonous snakes and spiders, and the signs/symptoms and treatment of poisonous bites.
Finally, today in her history class, Sara was taught USMC history from 1941 to 1945 and the following significant events: (1) The battle for Guadalcanal, (2) The Island Hopping Campaign, (3) The battles for Iwo Jima and Okinawa, (4) The peak strength of the Marine Corps by the end of the war in 1945 was six divisions, five air wings, and supporting troops, with troop strength peaked at 485,113, (5) and how 82 Marines had earned the Medal of Honor.
I saw Sara in my mind as I pulled out of a parking lot and right in front of me a rather large group of DEP Poolees were doing PT running along a levee. I remember that only just over three weeks ago, there ran Sara. Ha! I picked up my cell to text her that I saw them and... no, wait... can't do that now. Constant contact is truly a luxury of the times we live in. Amazing. And I think back with a smile at my excitement when I lived in Venezuela when the fax machine began to show up in the corner drug stores...made my Amateur Radio license almost obsolete. Times change!
Today was flag day and I have been looking forward (I think for one of the first times in my life) to having the flag out today. Alas, in our corner of Oklahoma we almost began thinking of running to Home Depot or Lowe's to get some lumber to start building an Ark... quite a bit of rain all day... I can still hear thunder as I write. It was a cool 69F here in Tulsa today. The high in Parris Island this afternoon was 96F and it has only cooled off to 86F at this moment as I finish this post... I know Sara is feeling the heat.
21 days down... August 20 on the horizon.
(I wonder if the Marine barracks are air conditioned? I bet the Air Force hotel is ... lol. OOHRAH, ... so proud of my Marine recruit!)
