Monday Training Day 60

Final Written and PFT

Today Sara has taken her final written academic test.  She has passed the practical application test and written test by now (I am totally confident)  Platoon 4024 is being tested on the core values and ethics, first aid, history, customs and courtesies, uniforms, leadership, Marine Corps policy and organization, land navigation, hand arm signals and marksmanship.  All of the experience and study since platoon forming has led to this point ... the Final Written Academic Test.

And just for kicks and giggles, today is the day for the Final Physical Fitness Test.  How many times has Sara written how much she loves this aspect of the Marine Recruit experience.  It would be hard to write what Sara has written that her DI's are saying to her in front of the other squad leaders and to her directly without sounding overly proud as a Dad.  Suffice it to say, that in the middle of this challenging experience have been some self confidence building comments and singling out....which I am very grateful for.  She is being charged to lead.

Physical fitness is an indispensable aspect of leadership. The habits of self-discipline required to gain and maintain a high level of physical fitness are inherent to the Marine Corps way of life and must be a part of the character of every Marine. Marines who are not physically fit can be a detriment to the readiness and combat efficiency of their unit.

The“PFT” is a physical test that every Marine takes twice each year and consists of pull-ups, crunches, and a 3.0 mile timed run.

Requirements for female recruits to score the maximum of 300 points:

70 second Flexed-arm hang
100 Crunches
3.0 mile run in 21:00 min (Timed)

Sara is trying to beat her PR of 251 point earned at the first PFT test.  As stated in an earlier post, she needed at least 225 to be rated the highest or 1st class.

Today, I know she will excel, but I just hope she is happy with her own performance.  It has been a warm one so I would guess that the PFT happened earlier in the morning.  Right now (4pm) it is only 91F (102F here in TUL) but with 69% humidity, the heat index is 109F.

For final drill on Wednesday 8/11, training day 62,  heat indexes will be 107F.
And then for the Crucible starting on Thursday it is going to be wicked hot.  Hydration will be key to keep from falling out.  Temps are projected to range from upper 70's to lower 90's but with the high humidity, the heat index will hover around 110F by mid afternoon each day.  There will be some cloud scattered cover and a slight chance of rain.

Drink lots Sara!  Stay strong.  You know what to do girl.  Take care of yourself so you can lead well!
